GCSE Science Tutoring — Make the Difficult Concepts Click
Expert tutoring across Biology, Chemistry, Physics — Triple Science and Combined Science. We make hard concepts understandable, build mathematical confidence, and teach the exam technique that delivers grade improvements.
Maths in science
~30% of marks are mathematical — we cover this explicitly
Triple Science
Three separate GCSEs — Biology, Chemistry, and Physics — each with its own grade. Recommended for students aiming for science A Levels or careers in medicine, engineering, or research.
Combined Science
A double award covering all three sciences in one course, resulting in two grades. Suitable for students where science is not a primary focus. We provide the same quality of support for Combined as for Triple.
What We Cover
All core topics across AQA, Edexcel, OCR (Gateway & 21st Century), and Cambridge IGCSE — with equal depth on the mathematical and practical elements that carry the most marks.
Biology
Triple & Combined- Cell biology — structure, division, transport
- Genetics & evolution — DNA, inheritance, natural selection
- Ecology — ecosystems, food chains, human impact
- Homeostasis — nervous system, hormones, kidney function
- Bioenergetics — photosynthesis, respiration, metabolism
Chemistry
Triple & Combined- Atomic structure — atomic models, periodic table, isotopes
- Bonding — ionic, covalent, metallic, intermolecular forces
- Quantitative chemistry — moles, concentrations, yield calculations
- Chemical changes — acids, electrolysis, rates of reaction
- Organic chemistry — alkanes, alkenes, polymers, alcohols
Physics
Triple & Combined- Forces & motion — Newton's laws, momentum, energy stores
- Electricity — circuits, resistance, domestic electricity
- Waves — transverse, longitudinal, EM spectrum, reflection/refraction
- Magnetism — electromagnets, motors, generators
- Nuclear physics — radioactive decay, half-life, fission, fusion
Mathematical Skills (~30% of marks)
Equation rearrangement, significant figures, unit conversion, graph interpretation, and standard form. One of the highest-yield areas to improve, and one we address explicitly.
Required Practicals (~15% of marks)
Method design, variable identification, data collection, graph skills, and analysis questions. A significant portion of exam marks that many students under-prepare for.
Part of our full GCSE tutoring programme — covering all core and optional subjects across every exam board.
Our Method
Understanding-first science teaching — with explicit attention to the mathematical and practical elements that most students overlook.
Concept-First Teaching
Understanding before memorising. We build genuine conceptual understanding so students can apply knowledge to unfamiliar questions — not just recall facts.
Required Practicals
All required practicals covered explicitly — methods, variables, data analysis, and the exam questions they generate. Often worth 15% of the paper.
Mathematical Skills in Science
Equation rearrangement, significant figures, graph interpretation, and unit conversion — the source of around 30% of marks for most students.
6-Mark Extended Answer Technique
Structured approach to the higher-mark questions: command word recognition, logical sequencing, and correct scientific vocabulary.
Exam Board Past Papers
Board-specific papers (AQA, Edexcel, OCR Gateway/21st Century, Cambridge IGCSE) with mark scheme feedback and grade boundary strategy.
GCSE Science Grade Improvements
Results from students who came to us struggling with science concepts and left with the grades they needed.

GCSE Science Success Stories
“Our daughter was struggling with Triple Science — all three subjects. After 4 months with Nisus she went from Grade 4s to Grades 7 and 8 across the board. The tutors have a real ability to explain difficult concepts clearly.”
Mark Hughes
Parent — Birmingham
“The maths in physics was where my son kept losing marks. His Nisus tutor spent several sessions specifically on equation rearrangement and units. It transformed his physics paper performance.”
Tom Richards
Parent — Manchester
“Chemistry never made sense to me until I started with Nisus. The tutor explained bonding in a way that actually clicked. I went from dreading chemistry to getting a Grade 7 in the real exam.”
Ayesha Malik
GCSE Student — London
GCSE Science FAQs
Common questions from parents and students about GCSE Biology, Chemistry, and Physics tutoring.
Triple Science (separate Biology, Chemistry, Physics GCSEs) gives three grades and is better for students considering science A Levels or medicine. Combined Science gives two grades covering all three sciences and is appropriate for students where science isn't a primary focus. We can help with both and can advise based on your child's goals.
